On a chilly February morning, everything was gearing up for the first auction of 2020. But it was already the sixth auction for the HanseArt auction house since its founding in 2018. A light breeze swirled the leaves around the parked cars at Mengstrasse 14, and the clouds hung low\u2014it looked like rain. Inside the auction house, preparations were in full swing, final technical checks were being carried out, and all possible malfunctions were backed up with redundancies. The doors opened at 9:30 a.m. for the first guests, who knew there was always fresh coffee for the early risers. Right on time at 10:00 a.m., the auction house went live (with the camera broadcasting directly to the internet), and the auction began. With over 400 carefully selected items, it was another long day for auctioneer Dennis Suitner, who, despite suffering from the flu, tackled his duties with energy and plenty of humor. Gradually, the seats filled up, and the online and telephone bidders were practically unstoppable in their quest to secure the most interesting items. The first highlight was a coffee service for six people \u2013 Herend \u2013 Hungary \u2013 Rothschild decor.\u201c<\/p>\n

which sold for \u20ac650 plus buyer's premium. The lots were auctioned off one by one, and one could see the auctioneer reviving his fading voice with tea and honey. A solitaire ring was also noteworthy.<\/p>\n

which went to a telephone bidder for \u20ac2,800 plus buyer's premium and has thus surely found a good home. A computer system did crash, but since provisions are always made for such eventualities, the auction was able to resume after a short time. A break was taken around noon. As with every auction, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks were available to keep the guests and the auction house team energized. In the afternoon, an extraordinary maritime painting, "Steam-Powered Sailing Ship on Rough Seas," was auctioned.\u201c<\/p>\n

which sold for \u20ac1200 plus buyer's premium. The visitors in the hall moved from one area of interest to another, and jewelry enthusiasts dominated the afternoon. Many exceptional pieces were on offer. My personal highlight towards the end was an Art Nouveau display case that sold for \u20ac1400 plus buyer's premium. .<\/p>\n

After the final call of bids, and with the auctioneer's voice still intact, the first auction of 2020 was successfully concluded. Many satisfied faces and positive feedback from all quarters confirmed that we are on the right track. We will continue to hold a prominent place in the L\u00fcbeck art scene and showcase our expertise both nationally and internationally. We look forward to the auction in April 2020.<\/p>\n
